Shopping in Rajasthan

A paradise for the shopaholics, Rajasthan has lots of unique things to offer to a tourist. The markets of all cities and towns of Rajasthan have something new, be it home decors or artifacts. The village people of the state are very creative and they make various handicrafts and textiles products at home. One should buy the costly products from the government emporiums.

The main things that are found in the markets of Rajasthan are:

Rajasthan Jewellery: The precious and semi-precious stone hand crafted jewellery of Rajasthan is quite famous among the women. One can buy the kundan jewelry, gothic jewelry, necklace, earrings, anklets from the markets of Jaipur and other cities.

Leather Wear: The leather foot wears especially jooti, mojris of Rajasthan are quite favorite things of ethnic fashion. Foreigners have a great passion for these foot wears which can be wore with modern jeans or with Indian traditional dresses. One can also purchase leather bags, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Barmer.

Rajasthan Paintings: The painters of Rajasthan create unique paintings and the major paintings are Folk painting, Phads and Pichwais, Miniature Art. The Kota style paintings, Kishangarh paintings, marble paintings are also other major divisions of Rajasthani paintings.

Rajasthan Stone Carving: The Stone carving art works of Rajasthan are home decors. The major stone carving art works found in the state are amazing idols, miniature, panels carved out of white marble, green marble, white and grey soap stone. In the stone carvings of the palaces and havelis, the sand stone and Kota stone are used by the artisans.

Rajasthan Textile: Rajasthan textiles are one of the major livelihood sources of the people. The village weavers and designers are very creative. The famous textiles are fabrics, bandhani textiles. The cities and their special productions are:

  • Hand Block Prints - Sanganer & Bagru
  • Bandhej - Jodhpur, Sikar, Jaisalmer, Pali, Jaipur, Udaipur
  • Hand-woven clothes - Johari Bazaar in Jaipur

Rajasthan Dhurries and Carpets: Dhurries and Carpets of Rajasthan are famed all over the world for their aesthetic art works. Different motifs and patterns are used by the weavers. The patterns used on the carpets are floral, geometric. One can buy these at any city market yet Bikaner and Jaisalmer are best for Dhurries and Carpets shopping.

Rajasthan Wooden Artifacts: The wooden artifacts found in Rajasthan are wooden chairs, tables with marble top, Miniature, Carved cabins Camel-hide stools, etc.

Rajasthan Terracotta: Terracotta is an old craft of Rajasthan. The terracotta dolls and images are made out of solid paste of mud and later after drying it the artists color it. One can buy the stone wares at Jaisalmer, Paper Thin Kagii Pottery at Alwar, and Painted Pottery with colored lac at Bikaner, and Wall plaques with images of deities and heroes at Jaipur.
